Today is the day that I have been looking forward to. Every since I was asked to speak at
The Future Leaders Luncheon - I HAVE BEEN EXCITED!
#1 - I love talking to young people, because they "get" me. #2 - I have 10 Nephews, 1 Neice, 1 Great Nephew, 6 Great Neices and it's what I do all the time. #3 - Young people will listen - IF you're talking their language and so on and so on. When I was asked to speak at to the Young people, I was thinking that it was a small room type event
(maybe 100 young people tops) - So imagine my surprise when I found out that IT WAS IN THE MAIN BALLROOM and it was over 1100 people there! So not only did I have to speak to all the Young People, but all the Adults as well - I'M GLAD I WENT TO TEXAS COLLEGE - BECAUSE IT PREPARED ME FOR ANYTHING!
SIDEBAR: The speech for the most part went off without a hitch. The people who actually heard the speech got it(The others didn't get it, because they were getting their eat on...lol. Trying to speak to people while their eating is like trying to get an exact time for the cable guy to show up - ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE!)
After my speech, I was presented with a really nice award as a thank you. And then something surprising happened - as I was coming from the stage with my award, i was met by a crowd of people wanting to shake my hand, take my picture, give me their business cards, and THANK ME - that's right - THANK ME for the words that I spoke
(Maybe the food didn't captivate as many people as I thought.). When I finally made my way outside of the Ballroom, my TEAM/Table was hustling with activity and product was moving - I LOVED IT! After we helped everyone outside of the Ballroom, we quickly packed up the product and headed back to our booth in The Sigma Market Place. I was met there by a lot of YOUNG MEN/ADULTS who attended the luncheon, thanking me for the speech/words/advice and encouragement.
ANOTHER SIDEBAR: But you know, as with everything - THE HATERS were there, drinking a gallon or two of haterade. UUUUGGGGHHHHH - It's a bitter pill to swallow, but Frats hate on frats too. There was this guy(I guess he was a Sigma - I honestly don't know), who shall remain nameless, and that's only because I didn't get his name, he came up to my
Dream Team and told them that he didn't like me or my speech and he wouldn't be supporting my book/cds
(Maybe he never heard the saying: If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.) When I got wind of this dark cloud in a suit of negativity that was looming over my vendor booth, interjecting green, venomous hatoration - I quickly stepped to him, introduced myself and politely asked why didn't he like my speech and why he chose not to support my products?
(Please, don't get me wrong, I know that everyone is not going to support my vision, like my speeches or like me for that matter - and that's cool, but no one has the right to interject negativity on my Team/Day - especially when you haven't sown a seed - okay!).
Needless to say, that by the time, I schooled this person on proper "hater ethics"... he wimpered off into the market place, drunk off of haterade with a dose of "reality pie" in his face - lol...
"LET YOUR HATERS BECOME YOUR MOTIVATORS!!!" I shook that hater off and continued selling my product - SATAN WILL NOT GET ANY GLORY!
I AM TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED! - SO OVERALL - WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE and DAY speaking to our RIGHT NOW GENERATION. I was blessed with the opportunity to plant a seed in the lives of our Young People and was rewarded because of my efforts. ...AND THAT'S THE WAY I SEE IT... But Who knows - Maybe it's just me!
